Gondwana Sings ‘Tha Thin Tha’

Hope you enjoy this video!, Such a gorgeous, talented lot of young Australians.  I was so impressed with their vibe and musicianship, working with Gondwana was the highlight of my summer! Thanks to the team at Gondwana led by Lyn Williams for the incredible opportunity!

For the 2014 Gondwana National Choral School in Sydney, I was commissioned as Composer in Residence to write a massed choir piece for all the Gondwana choirs to perform. The piece ‘Tha Thin Tha’ incorporates ‘konnakol’ the South Indian rhythmic vocal language, which is a sophisticated style of vocal percussion. This clip was filmed in rehearsal when the choir had known the piece for 24 hours!!   It was premiered as the finale in the concert The Concourse, Chatswood, Australia on Saturday January 18th, 2014 . The melodic theme of ‘Tha Thin Tha’ comes from the song cycle with her jazz quartet ‘The Eternal Pulse’.
